Climate in Orissa
It is warm almost throughout the year in the Western districts of Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Baragarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Mayurbhanj with maximum temperature hovering between 40-46° C. The Summer (March-June) maximum temperature ranges between 35-40° C and the low temperatures are usually between 12-14° C. The average rainfall during Rainy Season(July-September) is 150 cm, experienced as the result of south west monsoon during July-September. InWinter (October-February), it is intolerably cool. It is not very severe except in some areas in Koraput and Phulbani where minimum temperature may drop to 3-4° C.
Orissa Food Cusine
Simple yet delicious cuisine, Odisha (Orissa) follows a food pattern of Rice, the staple food is paired with vegetables. Most of Oriya people eat vegetarian food along with curd and coconut milk. But some yet relishes fish and other sea food delicacies like prawns, crabs and lobsters that are found in plenty at the vast coastline of the state. The curd here is rich and creamy and gives the succulent flesh an additional flavor. Yams, brinjals and pumpkins are also liberally used in curd with mustard seeds giving the whole preparation that extra zing. People are very fond of sweets as well, Pithas, these are small cakes both sweet and savory in taste. Chhenapodapitha, the caramelized custard-like dessert is also very popular. While at Odisha (Orissa), one must manage to have the tasting of 'Mahaprasad' the sacred food offered as 'Bhog' to Lord Jagannath. The temple has the world's largest kitchen with 400 cooks and 200m hearths that feed 10,000 people daily.
